ABOUT
I love eating out. It means I have no dishes to clean. When a friend recommends a restaurant to me, I’m encouraged to eat there. With so many restaurants out there, it is hard to know which ones to go to. The smaller restaurants are hit and miss–sometimes exceptional, sometimes awful. I strongly believe in supporting local businesses as well as the large corporate ones. Local businesses need our help to stay but only if they are good. This blog is out there to show which ones are great and which you should avoid. What I say is merely opinion from experience and my eye. Of course this isn’t gospel. If you like something I don’t, by all means let me know. I will happily post your comment so that other consumers have perspective.
My rating system. My rating system is a scale of 1 to 5–with three being business standard, five being exceptional, and one being seriously lacking. In my humble opinion, if a restaurant gets a one, I strongly recommend staying away–especially if there is a cleanliness issue.
In my rating system, I place a “full glass” category. When I go to a restaurant, a sign of the quality of service is determined by the length of time between my or my boyfriend’s glass being empty until when it gets refilled. Empty glasses generally frustrate customers and my dad has a tendency to get grumpy if it goes too long. For a restaurant to earn a five, it means my boyfriend’s glass was constantly filled (he drinks a lot). For a restaurant to earn a three, it means I didn’t have to wait longer than a minute or so before my glass was refilled and I had water on the side. I’ve known it common for a restaurant to earn a two especially on busy days or with new staff. A one means they’ve earned a small tip.
Because different ethnic foods specialize in different things, each type of ethnic food will have their own categories to rate. For instance, Indian food has Naan and Chai that are staples in every Indian restaurant. Because I am a tea snob and love my Chai, I will rate a restaurant’s Chai making abilities. I haven’t had bad Chai yet. Indian restaurants are usually more picky about tea than I am.
Should you feel that I should add something to my rating or if something really isn’t helpful, please let me know. I am happy to receive feedback as I want this site to be user friendly.
Thanks for visiting.
